| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, February 18 to 25, 2017, has been set aside as |

| 3 | 3 | | National FFA Week, and in conjunction with this observance, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | members, advisors, and guests of the Texas FFA Association are |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | gathering in Austin on February 21 to celebrate Texas FFA Day at |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The FFA was founded in 1928, and the Texas FFA was |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | chartered the following year; throughout its history, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | organization has helped youth across the state and nation develop |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | knowledge and skills related to agriculture, food, and natural |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | resources; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The FFA program is integral to a three-part |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | educational model that also includes classroom instruction and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | supervised hands-on experiences, and this initiative provides |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | vital support to the core curriculum of the Texas Education |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Agency's Foundation High School Program; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Texas FFA also fosters good citizenship and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | strong leadership in the state's schools, and over the course of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | its long history, FFA has produced many outstanding community, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | state, and national leaders in the fields of industry, education, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and government, including many members who have served in this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | chamber; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The largest FFA organization in the country, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Texas association has more than 118,000 members led by an elected |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | group of state officers who each represent one of the state's 10 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | FFA areas; each year, the organization awards more than $2 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | million in scholarships to deserving members who have |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | demonstrated academic excellence, career readiness, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | preparation for effective civic engagement; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The Texas FFA Association contributes immensely |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | to the success of agriculture, career, and technical education, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and in so doing, it is helping young Texans build a strong |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | foundation for future success; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 21, 2017, as Texas FFA Day |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | at the State Capitol and extend to all those participating |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be |

| 38 | 38 | | it further |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
