11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 261
22 WHEREAS, February 18 to 25, 2017, has been set aside as
33 National FFA Week, and in conjunction with this observance,
44 members, advisors, and guests of the Texas FFA Association are
55 gathering in Austin on February 21 to celebrate Texas FFA Day at
66 the State Capitol; and
77 WHEREAS, The FFA was founded in 1928, and the Texas FFA was
88 chartered the following year; throughout its history, the
99 organization has helped youth across the state and nation develop
1010 knowledge and skills related to agriculture, food, and natural
1111 resources; and
1212 WHEREAS, The FFA program is integral to a three-part
1313 educational model that also includes classroom instruction and
1414 supervised hands-on experiences, and this initiative provides
1515 vital support to the core curriculum of the Texas Education
1616 Agency's Foundation High School Program; and
1717 WHEREAS, Texas FFA also fosters good citizenship and
1818 strong leadership in the state's schools, and over the course of
1919 its long history, FFA has produced many outstanding community,
2020 state, and national leaders in the fields of industry, education,
2121 and government, including many members who have served in this
2222 chamber; and
2323 WHEREAS, The largest FFA organization in the country, the
2424 Texas association has more than 118,000 members led by an elected
2525 group of state officers who each represent one of the state's 10
2626 FFA areas; each year, the organization awards more than $2
2727 million in scholarships to deserving members who have
2828 demonstrated academic excellence, career readiness, and
2929 preparation for effective civic engagement; and
3030 WHEREAS, The Texas FFA Association contributes immensely
3131 to the success of agriculture, career, and technical education,
3232 and in so doing, it is helping young Texans build a strong
3333 foundation for future success; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3535 Legislature, hereby recognize February 21, 2017, as Texas FFA Day
3636 at the State Capitol and extend to all those participating
3737 sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be
3838 it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4040 the Texas FFA Association as an expression of high regard from
4141 the Texas Senate.
