2	2	WHEREAS, Distinguished citizens of Irving are gathering on
3	3	February 22, 2017, to celebrate Irving Day at the State
4	4	Capitol; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce is the
6	6	first Five Star Chamber of Commerce in Texas and actively
7	7	represents the interests of the largest business park in North
8	8	Texas; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Irving began its period of rapid growth in the
10	10	mid-20th century; the Plymouth Park Shopping Center opened in
11	11	1955, the University of Dallas in 1956, and Irving Community
12	12	Hospital in 1964; the creation of Dallas-Fort Worth International
13	13	Airport and the creation of Las Colinas and Valley Ranch
14	14	master-planned business and residential communities contributed
15	15	further to the city's growth, and for more than four decades, the
16	16	city has been home to the Big 12, Conference USA, and the National
17	17	Football Foundation; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Today, with the first Five Star Chamber of Commerce
19	19	in Texas and a population of approximately 225,000, Irving is
20	20	home to more than 8,500 companies, including the Fortune 500 global
21	21	headquarters of ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Commercial Metals,
22	22	Celanese Corporation, and the Fluor Corporation, and the Fortune
23	23	1000 global headquarters for the Michaels Company, Pioneer Natural
24	24	Resources, Flowserve Corporation, and Darling Ingredients; other
25	25	major employers include such companies as AT&T, ACE Cash Express,
26	26	Aviall, Citi, HMS, Kroger Stores, Microsoft, TXU Energy, and
27	27	Verizon; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Irving's educational resources make it a fine place
29	29	to live and work; the University of Dallas, North Lake College,
30	30	and eight other institutions of higher education offer opportunities
31	31	for study and personal growth; and
32	32	WHEREAS, The Irving Arts Center, three symphony orchestras,
33	33	and two award-winning theater companies, as well as the gondolas
34	34	at the Mandalay Canal, the museum and sculpture of the Mustangs
35	35	of Las Colinas, and the AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Championship all
36	36	provide entertainment for residents and visitors alike; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Benefiting greatly from the farsighted leadership
38	38	of Mayor Beth Van Duyne, City Manager Chris Hillman, and city
39	39	council members John Danish, Allan Meagher, Dennis Webb, Phil
40	40	Riddle, Oscar Ward, Brad LaMorgese, Kyle Taylor, and David Palmer,
41	41	Irving is a forward-looking and vibrant city, and its creative
42	42	and hardworking citizens are to be commended for their contributions
43	43	to the prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
45	45	Legislature, hereby recognize February 22, 2017, as Irving Day at
46	46	the State Capitol and extend to its mayor, city council members,
47	47	city manager, corporate executives, chamber representatives, and
48	48	other citizens present today a warm welcome to Austin.
