| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Libby Averyt, who is retiring as president of the |

| 4 | 4 | | Corpus Christi Caller-Times after more than 30 years of |

| 5 | 5 | | outstanding service; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Libby Averyt started her career at the Corpus |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Christi Caller-Times in 1986 as a night reporter on the police |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | beat; she has gone on to hold a variety of positions in different |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | departments of the media organization, including executive |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | editor and vice president of advertising; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, She is the first woman to serve as the newspaper's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | chief executive, and throughout her career, she has held fast to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | her belief that journalism has an important role to play in the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | fabric of life in the community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, She is a talented and resourceful professional |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and has handled her leadership responsibilities with dedication |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and an eye to keeping the community well informed about important |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | issues; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary journalist, she is respected and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | admired by her colleagues and by the general public, and her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | presence at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times will be greatly |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend Libby Averyt on her outstanding |

| 25 | 25 | | service to the people of Corpus Christi as president of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Corpus Christi Caller-Times and extend to her best wishes for |

| 27 | 27 | | continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
