SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 282
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Eugene Adrian Van Zelfden Jr. for his civic leadership
and his tireless work on behalf of the people of Texas; and
WHEREAS, A Distinguished Honor Graduate of the United
States Air Force Academy, Eugene Van Zelfden served his country
with distinction and earned the commissioned rank of captain; as
a civilian, he has the distinction of being licensed in Texas as
both an attorney and a certified public accountant; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, Mr. Van Zelfden founded the Texas
Grassroots Coalition with the goal of providing information to
the public on civic and governmental affairs; he went on to
publish a monthly newsletter that highlighted the workings of the
Texas government and legislature, and he wrote, produced, and
voiced the Texas Minute, a daily program that aired on 24 Texas
radio stations; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Van Zelfden founded the Tax Practice Group in
2002, and he volunteered his time each month to training
certified public accountants, tax attorneys, and tax preparers
in Central Texas on revised federal and state tax laws; in 2008,
he began publishing the monthly Tidbits in Time Almanac, a modern
version of Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanack; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Van Zelfden is truly a public-spirited
individual who represents the highest ideals of civic engagement,
and innumerable Texans have benefited from his wisdom and
expertise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend Eugene Adrian Van Zelfden Jr. for his
many contributions to the state and extend to him best wishes in
all his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
