SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 283
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Jerry Jones, who was recently elected for induction
into the Pro Football Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Jerry Jones is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys,
one of the most successful franchises in National Football
League history; under his stewardship, the Cowboys have
advanced to the playoffs 13 times and have won three Super
Bowl titles; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is the only team owner in league history
to play for a collegiate national championship football team
and own a Super Bowl winner; he purchased the Cowboys in 1989
for $140 million, and today, the franchise is worth more than
$4 billion; and
WHEREAS, He was the driving force behind the design and
construction of the state-of-the-art AT&T Stadium in Arlington;
the stadium opened in 2009 and has hosted Super Bowl XLV, the
2014 National Collegiate Athletic Association Final Four, and
the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship Game, in
addition to serving as the home field of the Cowboys; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has been active with a wide range of
charitable and civic organizations, such as the Salvation Army,
which gave Mr. Jones and his wife, Gene, the Evangeline Booth
Award, one of the organization's highest honors; and
WHEREAS, His innovations in the areas of marketing,
corporate sponsorships, stadium development, and community
service have had a profound impact on the National Football
League and the face of American sports, and it is truly fitting
that he receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend Jerry Jones on his outstanding
achievements as owner of the Dallas Cowboys and extend
congratulations to him on his selection for induction into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
