4	4	Dimitri Peter Pappas
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Dimitri Peter Pappas,
7	7	who died January 24, 2017, at the age of 81; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Dimitri Pappas was born on August 19, 1935, in
9	9	Laredo, Texas, to Emma Alicia Martinez and Peter Santiago Pappas,
10	10	who was the son of Santiago Pappas, one of the first Greek
11	11	immigrants in Laredo; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Dimitri Pappas earned a bachelor's degree in
13	13	accounting from Texas A&M University, where he was a member of
14	14	the Corps of Cadets, and he went on to serve the nation as a
15	15	navigator and pilot in the United States Air Force; his military
16	16	career included a tour of duty in Vietnam, and he was honored with
17	17	the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star
18	18	Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; he earned a
19	19	master's degree in logistics management during his service, and
20	20	he retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant
21	21	colonel; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Mr. Pappas was respected and admired throughout
23	23	the community for his commitment to faith, family, tradition, and
24	24	education; he served as a lector at Saint Michael's Catholic
25	25	Church, and he and his wife, Judy, both served the church as
26	26	eucharistic ministers; and
27	27	WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a
28	28	man of great distinction, Dimitri Pappas was beloved by many; he
29	29	leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
30	30	were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
31	31	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
32	32	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
33	33	family of Dimitri Peter Pappas: his devoted wife, Judith Mudd
34	34	Pappas; his children, Sandra Ann Flanagan and Michael Peter
35	35	Pappas; his sister, Sandra Pappas Carabaza; and his two
36	36	granddaughters; and, be it further
37	37	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
38	38	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
39	39	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
40	40	memory of Dimitri Peter Pappas.
