| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Georgetown Independent School District on the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its 100th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Georgetown Independent School District was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | established in 1917 with the passage of Senate Bill 225; the bill |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | was enacted to help ease the overcrowding of the city's public |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | schools and to help implement the state's new compulsory |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | attendance requirement; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Public schools in Georgetown had been producing |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | notable educators for some time before the district's creation; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Annie Lee Purl was a member of the first Georgetown High School |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | graduating class in 1892, and she enjoyed a distinguished 50-year |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | career with the district as both a teacher and an administrator, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and an elementary school in the district has been named in her |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | honor; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The district has been on the cutting edge of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | educational trends for many years, beginning with the use of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | standardized educational testing in the 1920s; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Georgetown Independent School |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | District has been dedicated to providing quality educational |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | opportunities and to helping young people prepare to face the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | challenges of an ever-changing society, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | that the district receive special recognition as it reaches this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the trustees, administrators, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | faculty, and staff of the Georgetown Independent School District |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | on their commitment to excellence in education and extend to all |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the district as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
