| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Patricia Hanks, who is retiring as superintendent of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Friendswood Independent School District after 15 years of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | outstanding service; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hanks joined the Friendswood Independent |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | School District in 1985 as a high school teacher; since becoming |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | superintendent in 2002, she has played an important role in helping |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the district achieve a balanced budget while maintaining |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | competitive salaries and increasing benefits for district |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | employees; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Under her leadership, a dynamic advanced |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | placement program was initiated and the number of National Merit |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Scholars has increased dramatically; the number of students |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | taking the SAT has nearly doubled, with students showing a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | significant improvement in scoring; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, During her career, she implemented a successful |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | dual enrollment program that has helped more than half of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district's students graduate by taking advanced placement exams |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and earning at least six hours of college credit; recognizing the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | importance of including fine arts and athletic activities |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | alongside academics, she led the district to three victories in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Lone Star Cup, which is given to districts for overall |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | success in University Interscholastic League competitions; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and administrator, she has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | been instrumental in the district having been ranked in the top |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | one percent of Texas districts on state assessments; her presence |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | at the Friendswood Independent School District will be greatly |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend Patricia Hanks on her commitment to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | excellence in education and extend to her best wishes for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
