| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Kaufman County are gathering |

| 3 | 3 | | in Austin on March 27, 2017, to celebrate Kaufman County Day at |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Situated in the fertile blackland prairie of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Northeast Texas, Kaufman County was home to Cherokee and Caddo |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Indians when settlers arrived in 1840 and established a community |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | that became known as Kingsboro; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1848, Kaufman County was carved out of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Henderson County and named in honor of David Spangler Kaufman, a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | member of the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | three years later, the settlement of Kingsboro became the county |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | seat and took the new name of Kaufman; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Among the area's notable historic sites is the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Kaufman County Poor Farm, which was established in 1883 to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provide housing to indigent residents; other landmarks include |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Porter Farm near Terrell, the Spellman Museum of Forney |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | History, the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Memorial Wall, the Terrell Heritage Museum, and the No. 1 British |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Flying Training School Museum in Terrell; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Treasuring their rich heritage as they look |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | forward to a bright and promising future, the citizens of Kaufman |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | County may take great pride in the role their communities |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | continue to play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 27, 2017, as Kaufman County |

| 28 | 28 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation |

| 29 | 29 | | sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable visit. |
