| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating March 1, 2017, as |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Texas A&M University--Texarkana Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Texarkana was established |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | in 1971 as East Texas State University--Texarkana and offered |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | upper-division and graduate classes on the campus of Texarkana |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | College; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The school became a member of The Texas A&M |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | University System in 1996, and in 2006, construction began on a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | new campus dedicated to the developing university; in 2010, it |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | welcomed its first class of entering freshmen; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the university has continued |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to grow and to expand its academic and extracurricular offerings |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to students; Bringle Lake Village, a 294-bed residence hall, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | opened in 2011, and intercollegiate athletics were introduced in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2014; the university added its first doctoral program, a Scholars |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of Practice program in Education Leadership, in 2016; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The university has been recognized as one of the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 50 Best Graduate Nursing Schools in America by the Top Master's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in Healthcare Administration website and has been named one of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the 50 most-affordable bachelor's-degree-granting colleges; it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | is truly fitting that a day be set aside to honor this exceptional |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | institution of higher education; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | administrators, and staff of Texas A&M University--Texarkana on |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | their commitment to excellence in education and extend to them |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | best wishes for a productive and memorable Texas A&M |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | University--Texarkana Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
