| 3 | 3 | | Leaders in Lubbock has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | created by the United States Department of Education in 1982 to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | recognize campuses that have demonstrated overall academic |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | excellence or have made notable progress in improving outcomes |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | among disadvantaged students; the Talkington School was one of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | only 279 public schools nationwide to have earned this impressive |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | honor in 2016; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Established by the Young Women's Preparatory |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Network in 2008, the school currently serves more than 400 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | students in 6th through 12th grades in the Lubbock Independent |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | School District; led by principal Berta Fogerson, the school's |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | outstanding faculty and staff work tirelessly to foster a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | tight-knit community and to promote high academic expectations; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | initiatives such as the Big Sister, Little Sister mentoring |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | program create a comfortable, nurturing environment, while the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | curriculum emphasizes college readiness with a focus on Advanced |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Placement courses; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through their dedication and commitment to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | excellence, the students, teachers, and administrators of the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Margaret Talkington School for Young Women Leaders have built an |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | impressive record of scholastic achievement, and they may take |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | great pride in receiving the Blue Ribbon designation; now, |

| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Margaret Talkington School |

| 30 | 30 | | for Young Women Leaders on its selection as a 2016 National Blue |

| 31 | 31 | | Ribbon School and extend to all those associated with the |
