5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |

6 | 6 | | citizens of Conroe in mourning the loss of Billy Ray "Wild Bill" |
---|
7 | 7 | | Clark, who died February 7, 2017, at the age of 86; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Billy Ray Clark was born on December 28, 1930, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Timpson, Texas, and he grew up in Conroe; he was a star athlete |
---|
10 | 10 | | in high school who excelled in both track and football, and he |
---|
11 | 11 | | was known for his quick wit and his winning smile and sense of |
---|
12 | 12 | | humor; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bill continued his academic career at Navarro |
---|
14 | 14 | | College until he answered the call to serve in the United States |
---|
15 | 15 | | Army during the Korean War; he served with distinction as a drill |
---|
16 | 16 | | sergeant and was honored with the Bronze Star and numerous other |
---|
17 | 17 | | service medals; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, When the war ended, Bill returned to Conroe to |
---|
19 | 19 | | work in the oil fields, and he continued on this career path by |
---|
20 | 20 | | engaging in more challenging work in South Texas; he retired from |
---|
21 | 21 | | the oil industry as a drilling superintendent for Richards |
---|
22 | 22 | | Drilling after 30 years in the field; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Soon after his retirement, Bill returned to |
---|
24 | 24 | | Conroe to begin a business career with his son at Clark's Country |
---|
25 | 25 | | Stores in the Grangerland community; he retired a second time in |
---|
26 | 26 | | the mid-1990s to spend his time hunting, fishing, playing |
---|
27 | 27 | | dominoes, and gardening, and he became known for growing enormous |
---|
28 | 28 | | watermelons that weighed as much as 80 pounds; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Bill Clark was a devoted father and grandfather |
---|
30 | 30 | | who was beloved throughout the community, and he leaves behind |
---|
31 | 31 | | memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged |
---|
32 | 32 | | to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
35 | 35 | | family of Billy Ray Clark; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
37 | 37 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
39 | 39 | | memory of Billy Ray Clark. |
