| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the month of March as Multiple System Atrophy Awareness |

| 4 | 4 | | Month in Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Multiple system atrophy is a progressive and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | fatal neurological disease that is known to affect approximately |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 15,000 patients in the United States; as many as 35,000 more |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | citizens suffer the condition without accurate diagnoses; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the course of a few years, patients with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | multiple system atrophy lose the ability to walk, talk, chew, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | swallow, and eventually, the ability to breathe; there are no |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | specific risk factors or known causes for the disease, and there |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | is currently no known cure; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A lack of awareness about multiple system atrophy |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | has hindered research and the ability of researchers to attain |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | funding for their work; public support and greater awareness can |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | aid in the discovery of the causes and a possible cure for this |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | devastating neurological disease and could help make a difference |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in the lives of thousands of Americans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the month of March as Multiple |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | System Atrophy Awareness Month in Texas and encourage citizens |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | across the state to help raise awareness of this neurodegenerative |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | disorder; and, be it further |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | memento of this important month. |
