| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the men and |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | women of the law enforcement profession who willingly place |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | themselves in harm's way to protect the safety of their |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | communities, and Corporal Bryan Shaw and Trooper Danny Shaw |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | are two such individuals; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Corporal Bryan Shaw, a detective with the El |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Centro College Campus Police, was among the officers present |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | during a demonstration in downtown Dallas on July 7, 2016; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Corporal Shaw was struck when a lone gunman opened fire on |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | police; despite his injury, he continued to protect his fellow |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | officers and civilians, and he held his post during an hours-long |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | standoff between the police and the gunman; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Later that year, Corporal Bryan Shaw's older |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | brother, Trooper Danny Shaw of the Texas Department of Public |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Safety, was also injured in the line of duty; on November 25, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2016, while he was on assignment in Fronton, near the Rio Grande, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Trooper Shaw was struck by a bullet from an unknown assailant |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | after a firefight erupted on the Mexican side of the river; in the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | midst of the violence, he was transported to a hospital by |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | department helicopter; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through their courage and dedication to duty, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | these two outstanding officers have earned the respect and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | gratitude of their fellow Texans, who continue to hold them in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | their thoughts and prayers; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby honor Corporal Bryan Shaw and Trooper Danny |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Shaw for their commitment and perseverance, both on the job and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | during their recovery, and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Shaw brothers as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
