| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social |

| 4 | 4 | | Workers and Texans across the state in celebrating March 6, 2017, |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | as Texas Social Work Day; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Social workers throughout the country strive to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | improve the happiness, health, and prosperity of our society, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | particularly for its most vulnerable members; they are the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | nation's largest group of mental health care providers and work |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to help people overcome such conditions as depression, anxiety, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and substance abuse disorders; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, social workers have been at the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | forefront of the struggle for equal rights for all citizens; they |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | have also worked with individuals and organizations to improve |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | communities and protect the environment; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Social workers are present at every level of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | society, from government institutions to schools and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | universities to social service agencies to the military; they |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | serve on the front lines helping people to overcome the effects |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of natural disasters and wars and to make a return to peace and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | prosperity; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Social workers are an integral part of the fabric |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of life in our state, and it is truly fitting that a day be set |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | aside to honor their many contributions to Texas citizens; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Chapter of the National |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Association of Social Workers on its steadfast commitment to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | public service and extend to its members best wishes for a |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | memorable Texas Social Work Day; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
