1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 347
2	2	WHEREAS, February 2, 2017, marks the 100th anniversary of
3	3	the first patient of Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in Bexar
4	4	County, a health care facility named in honor of the Bexar County
5	5	judge and Texas state senator who was a beloved champion of the
6	6	working class; and
7	7	WHEREAS, The Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital served all
8	8	persons who needed it, regardless of their ability to pay, proved
9	9	invaluable during the influenza epidemic of 1918, and soon after
10	10	earned recognition for its pioneering specialty care; and
11	11	WHEREAS, When the voters of Bexar County overwhelmingly
12	12	approved the creation of the Bexar County Hospital District in
13	13	1955, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital became the anchor
14	14	facility for the hospital district's mission to furnish medical
15	15	aid and hospital care to the indigent and needy persons of Bexar
16	16	County; and
17	17	WHEREAS, In 1968, with the construction of a new teaching
18	18	hospital adjacent to The University of Texas Medical School at
19	19	San Antonio, the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital was
20	20	transformed into the hub of the hospital district's growing
21	21	ambulatory health system, providing advanced imaging, laboratory,
22	22	and pharmacy services, in addition to primary and specialty
23	23	clinics; and
24	24	WHEREAS, In 2008, to continue the legacy of the Robert
25	25	B. Green Memorial Hospital, the Bexar County commissioners
26	26	approved the issuance of certificates of obligation to support
27	27	the construction of a new state-of-the-art ambulatory services
28	28	pavilion adjacent to the historic facility; and
29	29	WHEREAS, In January 2013, a new 269,000-square-foot,
30	30	six-story Clinical Pavilion on the historic Robert B. Green
31	31	Campus opened, featuring urgent care, adult and pediatric
32	32	primary care and specialty care, comprehensive laboratory
33	33	services, pharmacy, and imaging diagnostics, including CT, MRI,
34	34	mammography, X-ray, and ultrasound; and
35	35	WHEREAS, The Bexar County Hospital District, now doing
36	36	business as University Health System, is today a nationally
37	37	recognized academic health center and network of more than 20
38	38	primary care, urgent care, specialty, and school-based health
39	39	centers and is ranked the Best Hospital in San Antonio and No. 6
40	40	in Texas by U.S. News & World Report; and
41	41	WHEREAS, University Health System is an integral partner
42	42	of the State of Texas in providing emergency preparedness and
43	43	trauma services for South Central Texas at its premier Level I
44	44	Trauma Center and the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in
45	45	South Texas; and
46	46	WHEREAS, University Health System is the primary partner
47	47	of UT Health San Antonio for providing graduate medical education
48	48	and advancing knowledge and discovery to promote the good health
49	49	of Texans; and
50	50	WHEREAS, This occasion presents a welcome opportunity to
51	51	recognize the rich historical legacy of the lifesaving mission
52	52	that started with the admission of that first patient at the
53	53	Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in February 1917; now,
54	54	therefore, be it
55	55	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
56	56	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
57	57	founding of Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital and commend the board
58	58	of managers and leadership of University Health System for their
59	59	work in carrying forth the legacy of county judge Robert B. Green
60	60	and the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital; and, be it further
61	61	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
62	62	Legislature, hereby urge the board of managers and leadership of
63	63	University Health System to continue the legacy of Judge Green by
64	64	providing the highest level of care, service, and compassion to
65	65	the people of Bexar County for the next 100 years.
