11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders
44 football team, which won the 2016 National Collegiate Athletic
55 Association Division III national championship; and
66 WHEREAS, The Crusaders won the school's first national
77 championship in football by defeating the University of
88 Wisconsin Oshkosh Titans by a score of 10-7 at the Amos Alonzo
99 Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia; and
1010 WHEREAS, These student-athletes demonstrated great talent
1111 and perseverance over the course of the year and finished the
1212 season with a 15-0 record that established new school and
1313 American Southwest Conference football records for single-season
1414 victories; and
1515 WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of
1616 Coach Pete Fredenburg, the 2016 American Football Coaches
1717 Association Division III Coach of the Year, the Crusaders
1818 developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and
1919 WHEREAS, The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the
2020 people of Belton are proud of the Crusaders for their hard work,
2121 their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now,
2222 therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2424 Legislature, hereby commend the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
2525 Crusaders football team on its outstanding season and extend
2626 congratulations to the coaches and players on winning the 2016
2727 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III national
2828 championship; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3030 the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
