2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors |

4 | 4 | | Association on the occasion of the organization's 100th |
---|
5 | 5 | | anniversary; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors |
---|
7 | 7 | | Association was formed on November 30, 1917, when I. N. Odom |
---|
8 | 8 | | assembled the first meeting of principals at the Texas State |
---|
9 | 9 | | Teachers Association conference; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The association, commonly known as TEPSA, was |
---|
11 | 11 | | established with the mission of improving the education of Texas |
---|
12 | 12 | | children and the working conditions of elementary school |
---|
13 | 13 | | principals; today, the association serves 6,000 principals, |
---|
14 | 14 | | assistant principals, and supervisors who direct the activities |
---|
15 | 15 | | of approximately three million children enrolled in Texas |
---|
16 | 16 | | elementary schools; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The association has played a significant role in |
---|
18 | 18 | | the evolving standards of education in Texas; in 1942, it |
---|
19 | 19 | | recommended the formal set of guidelines by which to evaluate |
---|
20 | 20 | | elementary schools, and in 1974, the association's recommendation |
---|
21 | 21 | | that a full-time principal be employed at every elementary school |
---|
22 | 22 | | was approved by the Texas Education Agency; in 2000, TEPSA members |
---|
23 | 23 | | began training student council leaders and their advisors at |
---|
24 | 24 | | schools throughout the state; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors |
---|
26 | 26 | | Association has a long and successful history of advocacy for |
---|
27 | 27 | | elementary education, and it continues to have a positive impact |
---|
28 | 28 | | by working with state legislators, policy makers, and other |
---|
29 | 29 | | stakeholders who seek to improve the quality of childhood |
---|
30 | 30 | | education in Texas; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors |
---|
32 | 32 | | Association has served as an independent association since 1978, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and it has grown to become the largest and most respected state |
---|
34 | 34 | | elementary principals association in the nation; members of the |
---|
35 | 35 | | organization contribute to a proud legacy, and they have remained |
---|
36 | 36 | | committed to improving student achievement levels for all Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | children; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association and extend to |
---|
41 | 41 | | them congratulations on 100 years of success; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
43 | 43 | | the association as a memento of this special anniversary. |
