SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 355
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
in recognizing Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., who has been selected as
the 2017 Border Texan of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Since 1989, the Border Texan of the Year Committee
has annually honored individuals for their contributions,
support, and advocacy on behalf of residents of the Rio Grande
Valley and for their commitment to the betterment of South Texas
communities; and
WHEREAS, For 40 years, Senator Lucio has been a voice for
the people of the Rio Grande Valley; he is being honored for his
tireless advocacy on behalf of veterans and of children with
disabilities and for spearheading legislation that has strengthened
the local economy, promoted equity in public schools, and greatly
expanded higher education opportunities in the region; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lucio is among the longest-serving
members of the Texas Senate; he chairs the Senate Committee on
Intergovernmental Relations and serves as vice-chair of the
Senate Committee on Education; he has been honored by the
Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas for his work
aiding the families of fallen police officers; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Lucio is respected by his colleagues for his
conscientious approach to legislative leadership and for working
across the aisle to ensure the best possible outcomes for all
Texans; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his success in
representing the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley and Texans
across the state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. for his many
contributions to the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas and
congratulate him on being named the 2017 Border Texan of the
Year; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
