| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride |

| 3 | 3 | | in recognizing Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., who has been selected as |

| 4 | 4 | | the 2017 Border Texan of the Year; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since 1989, the Border Texan of the Year Committee |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | has annually honored individuals for their contributions, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | support, and advocacy on behalf of residents of the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Valley and for their commitment to the betterment of South Texas |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | communities; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, For 40 years, Senator Lucio has been a voice for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the people of the Rio Grande Valley; he is being honored for his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | tireless advocacy on behalf of veterans and of children with |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | disabilities and for spearheading legislation that has strengthened |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the local economy, promoted equity in public schools, and greatly |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | expanded higher education opportunities in the region; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Senator Lucio is among the longest-serving |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | members of the Texas Senate; he chairs the Senate Committee on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Intergovernmental Relations and serves as vice-chair of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Senate Committee on Education; he has been honored by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas for his work |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | aiding the families of fallen police officers; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Eddie Lucio is respected by his colleagues for his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | conscientious approach to legislative leadership and for working |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | across the aisle to ensure the best possible outcomes for all |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texans; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his success in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | representing the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley and Texans |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | across the state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. for his many |

| 30 | 30 | | contributions to the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | congratulate him on being named the 2017 Border Texan of the |
