| 3 | 3 | | cause for celebration, and Thelma Hope Roach of Henderson marked |

| 4 | 4 | | this momentous milestone in her life on January 13, 2017; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Born in Rusk County in 1917 to Robert and Lena |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Thompson, the former Hope Thompson is descended from the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Thompson-McCoy family; she is the granddaughter of Evan |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Thompson, who was listed in the 1896 Choctaw Census, and she is of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokee descent; today, she is revered |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | as the oldest member of the Mount Tabor Indian Community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Roach shared a fulfilling marriage of more |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | than five decades with her husband, Cecil Lee Roach; the couple |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | made their home in Rusk County, outside of Henderson; a devoted |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | mother, she takes great pride in her two sons, Ronald "Butch" |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Thompson and Claude Timothy Thompson; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The resilience and strength of character |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | demonstrated by centenarians are a source of enduring |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | inspiration, and Hope Roach has joined an elite group of Texans |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | who can reflect on 100 years of life well lived; now, therefore, |

| 20 | 20 | | be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Thelma Hope Roach on her 100th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |

| 24 | 24 | | happiness; and, be it further |
