| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, March 8, 2017, is Parkland Health and Hospital |

| 3 | 3 | | System Day at the State Capitol, and this occasion provides a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | fitting opportunity to recognize this noteworthy institution; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Parkland Health and Hospital System has been caring |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | for patients in Dallas County since 1894, and it has grown into an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | integrated health system and a prominent public academic medical |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | center that today employs more than 12,000 individuals; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Parkland has expanded its services, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and it is designated as a Level I trauma center, a Level III |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | neonatal intensive care unit, and a Level II stroke facility; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | moreover, in 2015, Parkland opened a new four-million-square-foot |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | hospital to better meet the needs of a growing population, and in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | January 2017, the system added a new ambulatory clinic named after |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | longtime chief executive officer Dr. Ron J. Anderson; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, With an average of some 63,000 admissions and over |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | one million outpatient visits annually, Parkland's reach extends |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | into the communities through numerous primary care clinics, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school-based clinics, and mobile medical vans and through |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | innovative programs that include Homeless Outreach Medical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Services, the Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dallas, and the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | North Texas Poison Center; the Parkland system also assists the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | uninsured in Dallas County, thus enabling residents of all means |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to have access to the health care they need; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Parkland has received a number of honors over the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | years, including a 2015 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for quality and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | safety and a 2016 designation as one of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | America; additionally, the facility has been recognized with a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Texas Preparedness Leadership Award for its outstanding service in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | response to the 2016 Dallas police shootings; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, For more than 120 years, Parkland Health and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Hospital System has provided patients and their families with |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | skilled and compassionate care, and its record of achievement and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | dedication to the residents of the Dallas County area are indeed |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | deserving of special praise; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 8, 2017, as Parkland Health |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | and Hospital System Day at the State Capitol and extend to the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | visiting delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | enjoyable stay in Austin. |
