SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 364 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Houston in celebrating March 7, 2017, as Houston East End Chamber of Commerce Day; and WHEREAS, The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1991 and is the premier business and community support organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining business expansion, investment, and economic development in the East End; the priorities of its vision plan are education, image, economic development, parks and neighborhood, and infrastructure; and WHEREAS, Known today as "Old Harrisburg," the East End is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods and home to the Port of Houston, one of the largest ports in the world; and WHEREAS, The chamber sponsors a wide range of activities for its members, including business luncheons and seminars, procurement events, an annual golf tournament, and the yearly awards celebration; since 2006, the East End Chamber of Commerce Foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarship funds to support the education of deserving area students; and WHEREAS, The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce has played an important role in furthering the businesses of the historic East End community, and it is truly fitting that a day be set aside to celebrate its many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the members and staff of the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce on their commitment to supporting and promoting area businesses and education and extend to all best wishes for a productive Houston East End Chamber of Commerce Day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the chamber as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
