| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Houston in celebrating March 7, 2017, as |

| 4 | 4 | | Houston East End Chamber of Commerce Day; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce was |

| 6 | 6 | | founded in 1991 and is the premier business and community support |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining business |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | expansion, investment, and economic development in the East End; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the priorities of its vision plan are education, image, economic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | development, parks and neighborhood, and infrastructure; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Known today as "Old Harrisburg," the East End is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | one of the city's oldest neighborhoods and home to the Port of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Houston, one of the largest ports in the world; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The chamber sponsors a wide range of activities |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for its members, including business luncheons and seminars, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | procurement events, an annual golf tournament, and the yearly |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | awards celebration; since 2006, the East End Chamber of Commerce |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Foundation has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarship funds to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | support the education of deserving area students; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Houston East End Chamber of Commerce has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | played an important role in furthering the businesses of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | historic East End community, and it is truly fitting that a day be |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | set aside to celebrate its many accomplishments; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members and staff of the Houston |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | East End Chamber of Commerce on their commitment to supporting |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and promoting area businesses and education and extend to all |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | best wishes for a productive Houston East End Chamber of Commerce |
