1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
3	3	recognizing the Texas Juvenile Justice System by declaring
4	4	January 24, 2017, Texas Juvenile Justice Professional Day; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The State of Texas and county governments are
6	6	partners in providing one of the most innovative juvenile
7	7	probation systems in the nation; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The Texas Juvenile Justice System is composed of
9	9	166 community-based probation departments, which serve youths
10	10	and families in all 254 counties of this state in a partnership
11	11	with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; and
12	12	WHEREAS, The juvenile justice system professionals are
13	13	able to make a positive difference in the lives of many Texas
14	14	youths and their families, which saves the state millions of
15	15	dollars each year; and
16	16	WHEREAS, The juvenile probation departments handle 100
17	17	percent of the referrals of juveniles to the juvenile justice
18	18	system each year through the efforts of more than 8,200 certified
19	19	juvenile probation and supervision officers, and the departments
20	20	continue to provide services at the local level to 95 percent of
21	21	referrals; and
22	22	WHEREAS, The persons who enter the field of juvenile
23	23	justice accept a great responsibility for the youths and families
24	24	of Texas; they work tirelessly and courageously to rehabilitate
25	25	the lives of young citizens and to maintain the security and
26	26	safety of our state's communities; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commend the outstanding professionals of our
29	29	juvenile justice system for their vital contributions to the
30	30	citizens of this state and extend sincere appreciation to them on
31	31	Texas Juvenile Justice Professional Day 2017; and, be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
33	33	honor of Texas Juvenile Justice Professional Day.
