SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 370
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join Texans across the state in celebrating March 7, 2017, as
Blinn College Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Blinn College was established in 1883 and was the
first county-owned community college in Texas; it is one of the
premier two-year colleges in the state and among the nation's
leaders in transferring students to top four-year
universities; and
WHEREAS, With campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg, and
Sealy, Blinn College offers academic transfer, workforce
training, and continuing education classes for more than 19,000
students; it has received national recognition for
affordability, with students saving approximately 44 percent in
tuition compared to the average Texas public university; and
WHEREAS, Blinn College is accredited by the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges; its
enrollment has grown by more than a third since 2006; and
WHEREAS, Blinn College has played an important role in
higher education in Texas for more than 130 years, and it is truly
fitting that a day be set aside to celebrate its many
contributions to our state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and
staff of Blinn College on their commitment to excellence in
education and extend to all best wishes for a memorable Blinn
College Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
