| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Texans across the state in celebrating March 7, 2017, as |

| 4 | 4 | | Blinn College Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Blinn College was established in 1883 and was the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | first county-owned community college in Texas; it is one of the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | premier two-year colleges in the state and among the nation's |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | leaders in transferring students to top four-year |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | universities; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, With campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sealy, Blinn College offers academic transfer, workforce |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | training, and continuing education classes for more than 19,000 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | students; it has received national recognition for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | affordability, with students saving approximately 44 percent in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | tuition compared to the average Texas public university; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Blinn College is accredited by the Southern |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges; its |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | enrollment has grown by more than a third since 2006; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Blinn College has played an important role in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | higher education in Texas for more than 130 years, and it is truly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fitting that a day be set aside to celebrate its many |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | contributions to our state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the administrators, faculty, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | staff of Blinn College on their commitment to excellence in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | education and extend to all best wishes for a memorable Blinn |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | College Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 29 | 29 | | the college as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
