| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Palmview are gathering in |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin on March 7, 2017, to celebrate Palmview Day at the State |

| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in southern Hidalgo County, in the Rio |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Grande Valley, Palmview can trace its heritage to the town of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Mamie, which was established in 1904 as a stop along the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway; in 1972, a group of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | local residents led a drive to create an autonomous community, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and their efforts resulted in the establishment of the City of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Palmview; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In the years since, Palmview has experienced |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | significant growth and is now home to about 7,000 residents; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | located at the crossroads of United States Highway 83 and Farm |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Road 2061, the town is situated between the busy retail areas of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | central Hidalgo County and the slower-paced, yet growing Starr |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | County to the west; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Palmview's expansion has created a range of new |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | business opportunities, and the city chamber of commerce is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | working with entrepreneurs to spur further economic activity; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | moreover, officials are devoted to enhancing services to benefit |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the town's growing population and, to that end, have cooperated |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | with agencies such as the Texas Water Development Board and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to pursue |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | infrastructure projects; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The city's progress is driven by its committed, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | community-focused residents, who embody the town's slogan of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | "Palmview Proud"; their involvement plays an essential role in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | numerous initiatives, including the Parks and Recreation |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Department sports programs, which have registered more than 90 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | teams, a rate of participation that exceeds that of much larger |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | municipalities; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Home to an engaged citizenry and city government, |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Palmview is building on its heritage of hard work and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | independence to prepare for a dynamic and prosperous future; now, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 7, 2017, as Palmview Day at |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | the State Capitol and extend to the city's delegation sincere |

| 40 | 40 | | best wishes for an enjoyable and productive visit to Austin. |
