| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas section of the United States |

| 3 | 3 | | Tennis Association are visiting Austin on March 6, 2017, to |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrate USTA Texas Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, USTA Texas was founded in 1895; the nonprofit |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | volunteer organization is composed of more than 50,000 individual |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | members and over 500 organizational members, and it sponsors |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | programs for beginning, recreational, and competitive juniors, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | as well as for adults and seniors; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, As part of the USTA National Junior Tennis and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Learning network, the state section has joined with more than 50 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | community tennis associations across Texas to help promote the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | health, social, and educational benefits of tennis through a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | variety of youth programs; among those are Play Days, which is |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | designed to introduce youngsters to competitive tennis in a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | low-pressure setting, and Hot Shots, which helps instill such |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | values as teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication by offering |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | organized match play in a team setting; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Through USTA Texas and the state's physical |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | education curriculum, teachers and coaches receive lesson plans, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | training, and equipment to help them include tennis in their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | school's athletic program; because of these efforts, hundreds of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | thousands of young Texans have opportunities to try the sport; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Committed to making tennis available to all |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | children who want to play, including those with intellectual or |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | physical disabilities, USTA Texas supports and promotes adaptive |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and wheelchair tennis programs through education, training, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | grant funding; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, By increasing the accessibility of tennis for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Texans of all ages and backgrounds, USTA Texas has significantly |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributed to making our communities healthier places in which |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to live, and it is a pleasure to welcome the association's members |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | to Austin for this special occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2017, as USTA Texas Day at |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | the State Capitol and extend to all those affiliated with the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | organization sincere best wishes for the future. |
