55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Brownwood in mourning the loss of J. Fred Perry, who
77 died December 27, 2016, at the age of 86; and
88 WHEREAS, J. Fred Perry was an exemplary civic leader and
99 businessman who played a vital role in the growth and prosperity
1010 of his community; and
1111 WHEREAS, Mr. Perry grew up on a farm near Bangs and was a
1212 graduate of Bangs High School; he earned a degree from Daniel
1313 Baker College and served the nation with distinction in the
1414 United States Air Force; and
1515 WHEREAS, He was a cofounder of PF&E Oil Company, which
1616 began as a small wholesaler and retailer of petroleum products
1717 and grew to become one of the area's leading companies and to
1818 operate the successful Food Plaza convenience stores; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Perry was active in a range of civic
2020 organizations and received numerous awards for his contributions
2121 to the community; a socially private, yet devout Christian who
2222 practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of Austin
2323 Avenue Church of Christ; and
2424 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2525 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
2626 counsel will not be forgotten by his family and countless
2727 friends; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2929 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3030 family of J. Fred Perry; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3232 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3333 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3434 memory of J. Fred Perry.
