| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Brownwood in mourning the loss of J. Fred Perry, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died December 27, 2016, at the age of 86; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, J. Fred Perry was an exemplary civic leader and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | businessman who played a vital role in the growth and prosperity |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of his community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Perry grew up on a farm near Bangs and was a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | graduate of Bangs High School; he earned a degree from Daniel |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Baker College and served the nation with distinction in the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | United States Air Force; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He was a cofounder of PF&E Oil Company, which |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | began as a small wholesaler and retailer of petroleum products |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and grew to become one of the area's leading companies and to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | operate the successful Food Plaza convenience stores; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Perry was active in a range of civic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | organizations and received numerous awards for his contributions |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to the community; a socially private, yet devout Christian who |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | practiced his faith in his daily life, he was a member of Austin |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Avenue Church of Christ; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | counsel will not be forgotten by his family and countless |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of J. Fred Perry; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
