| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Brownsville in celebrating Brownsville |

| 4 | 4 | | Chamber of Commerce Day at the Capitol on March 8, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chartered as a nonprofit organization in 1937, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce was established to promote |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the prosperity of local businesses and the well-being of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | greater community; this year, the chamber is celebrating 80 years |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of service; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Members of the chamber work diligently to advance |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the interests of 700 businesses through advocacy, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and initiatives that help the businesses to succeed and the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | economy to thrive; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce serves as a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | catalyst for the improvement of the civic, economic, and social |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | welfare of the city and its residents; it has played instrumental |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | roles in establishing such signature events and programs as |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Charro Days, Incorporated, the Sombrero Festival, and the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mr. Amigo Association, and it helped promote the creation of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texas Southmost College and the Port of Brownsville; the chamber |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | was selected to host one of five of the state's Women's Business |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Centers, which were established with the mission of empowering |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | women entrepreneurs; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce remains a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | driving force in the South Texas economy, and members can indeed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | take pride in their many contributions to the community and the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate all associated with the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Brownsville Chamber of Commerce on 80 years of success in helping |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Brownsville remain a wonderful place to live and work and extend |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to all best wishes for a memorable Brownsville Chamber of Commerce |
