11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 393
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join the citizens of Brownsville in celebrating Brownsville
44 Chamber of Commerce Day at the Capitol on March 8, 2017; and
55 WHEREAS, Chartered as a nonprofit organization in 1937,
66 the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce was established to promote
77 the prosperity of local businesses and the well-being of the
88 greater community; this year, the chamber is celebrating 80 years
99 of service; and
1010 WHEREAS, Members of the chamber work diligently to advance
1111 the interests of 700 businesses through advocacy, leadership,
1212 and initiatives that help the businesses to succeed and the
1313 economy to thrive; and
1414 WHEREAS, The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce serves as a
1515 catalyst for the improvement of the civic, economic, and social
1616 welfare of the city and its residents; it has played instrumental
1717 roles in establishing such signature events and programs as
1818 Charro Days, Incorporated, the Sombrero Festival, and the
1919 Mr. Amigo Association, and it helped promote the creation of
2020 Texas Southmost College and the Port of Brownsville; the chamber
2121 was selected to host one of five of the state's Women's Business
2222 Centers, which were established with the mission of empowering
2323 women entrepreneurs; and
2424 WHEREAS, Today, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce remains a
2525 driving force in the South Texas economy, and members can indeed
2626 take pride in their many contributions to the community and the
2727 state; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2929 Legislature, hereby congratulate all associated with the
3030 Brownsville Chamber of Commerce on 80 years of success in helping
3131 Brownsville remain a wonderful place to live and work and extend
3232 to all best wishes for a memorable Brownsville Chamber of Commerce
3333 Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 the chamber as a memento of this special day.
