5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Joseph E. Torres, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | February 5, 2017, at the age of 93; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Torres was an exemplary citizen who |
---|
9 | 9 | | was widely respected and admired in the El Paso community for his |
---|
10 | 10 | | many achievements; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of El Paso High School, Dr. Torres |
---|
12 | 12 | | served the nation with distinction in the United States Army Air |
---|
13 | 13 | | Corps in World War II; he began his military service in the |
---|
14 | 14 | | infantry, but later became a bombardier and navigator for B-17 |
---|
15 | 15 | | aircraft, and he flew 13 missions over Germany during the |
---|
16 | 16 | | war; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He went on to serve in the Army Air Corps Reserve |
---|
18 | 18 | | and in the Air Force Reserve, and he retired with the rank of |
---|
19 | 19 | | colonel; he practiced dentistry in El Paso for more than 60 |
---|
20 | 20 | | years; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, He was the founder of the local chapter of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | American G.I. Forum and served as its vice commander; he was also |
---|
23 | 23 | | a founding member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a nonprofit |
---|
24 | 24 | | organization, and he was instrumental in the founding of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Legacy of Valor nonprofit organization; he was honored by the |
---|
26 | 26 | | 82nd Airborne Division Association for his exemplary service in |
---|
27 | 27 | | support of international freedom and world peace; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
---|
29 | 29 | | gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
30 | 30 | | counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to |
---|
31 | 31 | | share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family and friends of Dr. Joseph E. Torres; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
