11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 397
22 WHEREAS, For more than 80 years, the CITGO Petroleum
33 Corporation has bolstered the prosperity and well-being of the
44 Lone Star State by employing thousands of Texans and supporting
55 initiatives of lasting benefit to the community; and
66 WHEREAS, Headquartered in Houston, CITGO Texas Operations
77 boasts an 890-acre facility in Corpus Christi that refines
88 157,000 barrels of petroleum per day, provides over 1,050 Texans
99 with high-paying jobs, and generates an average of $345 million a
1010 year in economic activity; and
1111 WHEREAS, CITGO's community outreach efforts include STEM
1212 education mentoring programs such as the award-winning CITGO
1313 Innovation Academy at Foy H. Moody High School in Corpus Christi,
1414 as well as an endowment fund that offers scholarships and financial
1515 support to students; the company also established coastal
1616 conservation and restoration initiatives in response to the
1717 environmental damage caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and
1818 it provides heating oil to families in need across 25 states; and
1919 WHEREAS, The company's health and wellness efforts include
2020 transforming a former hotel in Corpus Christi into Charlie's
2121 Place, a leading drug rehabilitation facility; it has provided
2222 generous support to the Special Olympics for more than 15 years,
2323 and in the past three decades, it has helped raise more than $200
2424 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association; and
2525 WHEREAS, Of all the factors that have furthered the success
2626 of CITGO Texas Operations, none have been more critical than the
2727 company's dedicated employees across the state and its community
2828 partners, all of whom have helped make Texas a great place to do
2929 business; and
3030 WHEREAS, Throughout its notable history, CITGO Texas
3131 Operations has made a substantial contribution to the Texas
3232 economy while giving back to the community in myriad ways; now,
3333 therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3535 Legislature, hereby commend CITGO Texas Operations for more than
3636 80 years of outstanding performance and community involvement
3737 and extend to all those associated with the enterprise sincere
3838 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4040 CITGO Texas Operations as an expression of high regard from the
4141 Texas Senate.
