| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Byron V. Garrett for his outstanding work in the fields |

| 4 | 4 | | of education and family relations; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Byron Garrett is chairman of the National Family |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Engagement Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | transforming education through meaningful family engagement; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | throughout his career, he has been committed to advancing the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | principle that every individual has a responsibility to serve in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the best interests of the nation's children; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He has held numerous posts through which he has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | contributed to the promotion of family-centered educational |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | efforts; he has been a columnist for Parenting magazine, a lead |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | strategist and planner for the NBC News program Education Nation, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and a chief executive officer of the National PTA; he was also an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | integral part of the Helping America's Youth initiative; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A highly accomplished writer, he is the author of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | The ABC's of Life, and his work has appeared in such publications |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Jet magazine; he has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | been a featured guest on the Today Show and the Dr.Phil show; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Byron Garrett is also a talented speaker and an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | influential African American leader who has had a profound impact |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | on the lives of countless young people, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | that he receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Byron V. Garrett on his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | exceptional literary work and educational initiatives and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | endeavors; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
