| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Texas Task Force 1, the state's premier search and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | rescue team, on the 20th anniversary of the organization's |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | establishment; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, As designated by the Texas Legislature, Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Task Force 1 is a part of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Service and was established to provide training for individuals |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and to provide assistance in search, rescue, and recovery efforts |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | following natural or human-caused disasters; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The task force operates under the direction of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas Division of Emergency Management; since its creation, the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | task force has been deployed by three different Texas governors |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | to assist with 87 disasters in the state; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 2001, the Federal Emergency Management Agency |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | designated Texas Task Force 1 as one of 28 national search and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | rescue teams; Texas Task Force 1 played an integral role in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | search and rescue mission at the World Trade Center during the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | nationwide response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and it has been deployed to more than 40 other national disasters |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | outside of Texas; in 2015, FEMA recognized the task force as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | model organization that leads the nation in effective emergency |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | response performance; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In the two decades since its creation, Texas Task |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Force 1 has removed, rescued, or recovered countless Texans |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | during severe weather events, such as the 2015 Blanco River flood |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | near Wimberley and the 2016 winter tornadoes that struck the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex the day after Christmas; all those |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | who have contributed to the success of Texas Task Force 1 can |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | indeed take pride in the team's outstanding search and rescue |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | performance; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with Texas Task Force |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 1 for their invaluable contributions to the citizens of this state |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and to the nation and congratulate them on 20 years of success; |
|---|

|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor |
