4	4	Margaret Merle Roberts
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
6	6	citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Margaret Merle
7	7	Roberts, who died January 4, 2017, at the age of 46; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Margaret Roberts was born on March 21, 1970, and
9	9	she grew up in the Riverwood Estates community in Houston; she
10	10	graduated from M. B. Smiley High School in 1988, and she
11	11	furthered her studies at Texas Southern University and later at
12	12	the University of Houston in Clear Lake; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Margaret joined the Houston Fire Department in
14	14	April of 1994, and over the years, she was assigned to fire
15	15	stations throughout the Houston area; in 2002, she attended
16	16	Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting training, and she was
17	17	transferred to help open a new fire station at George Bush
18	18	Intercontinental Airport the following year; she retired from
19	19	the department on December 13, 2016, after 22 years of
20	20	distinguished service; and
21	21	WHEREAS, In addition to her career as a firefighter,
22	22	Margaret succeeded in several entrepreneurial endeavors with her
23	23	husband, Daniel Jerome Roberts II; she was a loving mother and
24	24	grandmother who guided her family by spiritual example, and she
25	25	was an active member of Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Margaret Merle Roberts was a devoted public
27	27	servant,andsheinspiredthosearoundherwithherkindness,her
28	28	wisdom, and her steadfast bravery in working to protect her
29	29	fellow citizens; she is being posthumously honored on
30	30	Firefighters and Paramedics Day at the State Capitol on March 21,
31	31	2017; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
33	33	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
34	34	family and friends of Margaret Merle Roberts; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
36	36	her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
37	37	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
38	38	memory of Margaret Merle Roberts.
