|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1985, this prestigious accolade |

| 6 | 6 | | recognizes junior high and middle school bands that have |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | demonstrated the highest standards of excellence in concert |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | activities over a period of several years, receiving superior |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | ratings at regional, statewide, and national competitions; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, While there is no specific number of schools |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | honored with the Sudler Cup each year, the Clark Middle School |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | band holds the distinction of being the only ensemble in the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nation to win the prize for 2016; prior to this latest honor, the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | group had racked up numerous University Interscholastic League |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sweepstakes Awards, as well as National Wind Band Honors in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 2016 Mark of Excellence recorded music contest and recognition as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the 2014 Texas Middle School 2C Honor Band, the highest praise |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | attainable from the Texas Music Educators Association; moreover, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hundreds of Cougar musicians have distinguished themselves at |

| 20 | 20 | | Texas Music Educators Association regional competition and at |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | University Interscholastic League solo and ensemble events, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | while the band's directors have garnered special kudos from the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | association; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of director Ben Katz, the |

| 25 | 25 | | Clark Middle School Cougar Band has proven itself to be one of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | premier middle school ensembles in the nation, and its members |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | may take justifiable pride in this notable accomplishment; now, |

| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Clark Middle School band on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | its receipt of the 2016 Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Foundation and extend to all those associated with the group |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
