1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 414
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the residents of the cities of Williamson County
4	4	and the county's officials on the occasion of Williamson County
5	5	Day; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Williamson County is among the fastest-growing
7	7	counties in the nation; its population of 489,250 has had an
8	8	increase of over 56 percent since 2000, and employment has
9	9	increased by more than 80 percent; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Williamson County is home to one of the
11	11	fastest-growing health care hubs in America; its five hospitals
12	12	and the Texas A&M Health Science Center have contributed to an
13	13	increase in health care employment of over 55 percent since 2000;
14	14	the county has been ranked as one of the healthiest counties in
15	15	Texas for six consecutive years; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Williamson County is a center for higher learning
17	17	and offers a variety of educational opportunities at historic
18	18	Southwestern University, Texas State University-Round Rock,
19	19	Austin Community College, and the East Williamson County Higher
20	20	Education Center; and
21	21	WHEREAS, The Texas Life-Sciences Collaboration Center in
22	22	Georgetown is a growing and vital resource for the recruitment
23	23	and acceleration of emerging biotechnology and medical device
24	24	companies and for the furtherance of scientific education in area
25	25	public schools and universities; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Williamson County is also home to Georgetown Utility
27	27	Systems, which makes the City of Georgetown one of the nation's
28	28	largest cities with municipally owned utilities to supply its
29	29	customers with 100 percent solar and wind energy; and
30	30	WHEREAS, The transportation infrastructure of Williamson
31	31	County continues to be expanded to accommodate the area's growth
32	32	and to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Leander, with its transportation-oriented
34	34	development, is the northern terminus of the Capital Metro commuter
35	35	rail line and provides local residents with a cost-effective and
36	36	environmentally friendly transportation alternative; and
37	37	WHEREAS, With one of the lowest crime rates anywhere,
38	38	Williamson County is among the safest places in the nation, and
39	39	Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown have been listed among the
40	40	best places in America in which to live, launch a new business,
41	41	and retire; and
42	42	WHEREAS, Williamson County is the proud home of the Texas
43	43	Rangers Triple A affiliate team, the Round Rock Express, and of
44	44	owner and baseball legend Nolan Ryan; and
45	45	WHEREAS, Williamson County is renowned for its exceptional
46	46	quality of life, and its residents are noted for their
47	47	hospitality, goodwill, and civic engagement and for the care and
48	48	support they show for neighbors in need; now, therefore, be it
49	49	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
50	50	Legislature, hereby proclaim March 16, 2017, Williamson County
51	51	Day; and, be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
53	53	the citizens of Williamson County as an expression of high regard
54	54	from the Texas Senate.
