1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the citizens of The Colony on the 40th anniversary of
4	4	the city's official incorporation; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Colony traces its roots to the 1841 Peters
6	6	Colony contract, the first empresario contract authorized by the
7	7	legislature of the Republic of Texas; the Peters Colony contract
8	8	was established to promote immigrant settlement in North Texas,
9	9	and it designated land that included all or part of 26 modern
10	10	counties; the contract brought approximately 1,800 families to
11	11	the region, eight of whom settled in the area known today as The
12	12	Colony; and
13	13	WHEREAS, The City of The Colony owes its eventual
14	14	development to the construction of the Lake Lewisville Dam, which
15	15	began collecting water in 1954, and to the founding of the small
16	16	community of Eastvale, which was established in the 1960s along
17	17	the lake's eastern shore; and
18	18	WHEREAS, In 1973, the Dallas-based residential land
19	19	developer Fox and Jacobs purchased 2,500 acres of land along the
20	20	shore of Lake Lewisville and south of Eastvale and designated the
21	21	tract "The Colony" to memorialize the spirit of Peters Colony; by
22	22	1977, The Colony had more than 3,500 residents, and they voted to
23	23	incorporate as a city; the Eastvale community consolidated with
24	24	the city 10 years later; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Since its incorporation, The Colony has grown and
26	26	has become a vibrant city that embraces conscientious growth and
27	27	development while preserving natural green spaces; The Colony is
28	28	a gem among North Texas communities, and the anniversary of its
29	29	incorporation is indeed cause for celebration; now, therefore,
30	30	be it
31	31	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
32	32	Legislature, hereby commend all who have helped The Colony
33	33	grow and become the thriving scenic community it is today
34	34	and congratulate them on the city's 40th anniversary; and,
35	35	be it further
36	36	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	37	the city as a memento of this anniversary.
