| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Altrusa International, Incorporated, on the 100th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary of its founding; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Altrusa International was founded in 1917 in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Nashville, Tennessee, to fill the need for civic organizations |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for women; the mission of this global volunteer service |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | organization is to promote better communities through |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | leadership, partnership, and service; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Altrusa members share human and financial |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | resources in their communities, support nongovernmental |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | organizations through foundation grants, and provide |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | humanitarian relief through multiple avenues; in 2016 alone, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | members around the world engaged in more than a million hours of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | volunteer service; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding organization works tirelessly to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | support and promote women, but membership is open to all; rather |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | than seeking to place blame for the lack of recognition and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | opportunities for women in business, the organization aims to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | awaken women to their responsibilities and possibilities and to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | highlight their accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The many service areas Altrusa has focused on |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | through the years include literacy, HIV/AIDS, and disaster |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | relief; it is truly fitting that Altrusa receive special |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Altrusa International, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Incorporated, on its commitment to humanitarian service and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to its members best wishes for memorable 100th anniversary |
