| 4 | 4 | | celebrating March 22, 2017, as Texas Small Business Development |

| 5 | 5 | | Center Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, On March 22, 1977, the Small Business Development |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Center Act was introduced in the United States Senate; the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | passing of this act led to the creation of a national |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | infrastructure of approximately 1,000 service centers and more |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | than 5,000 professional business advisors who provide |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | personalized and confidential assistance to more than a million |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | American small business owners each year; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, the Texas Small Business |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Development Center Network has been helping to create jobs in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas "one business at a time"; the state network is comprised of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | numerous field centers that are strategically located in rural, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | urban, and suburban communities throughout Texas, as well as at |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | select institutions of higher education; experienced network |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | advisors provide business consulting at no cost to clients and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | offer affordable training to help small businesses succeed at |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | every stage of development; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 2016, Texas businesses that accessed network |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | services saved close to 10,000 jobs and created 14,692 new jobs; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | these successful companies generated $1.3 billion in new sales |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and $152 million in tax revenue; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Communities thrive when their local businesses |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | thrive,andtheTexasSmallBusinessDevelopmentCenterNetwork |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | has helped thousands of small business owners access the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | resources they need for long-term success; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Texas Small |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Business Development Center Network for their work on behalf of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Texas businesses and for their many contributions to the state and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | extend to them best wishes for a memorable Texas Small Business |

| 35 | 35 | | Development Center Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
