| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome the members of the Tarleton State University delegation |

| 4 | 4 | | visiting the Capitol on March 21, 2017, to commemorate the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | centennial of the university's union with what has become The |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Texas A&M University System and to celebrate Tarleton State |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | University Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Tarleton State University was established in 1899 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | as John Tarleton College, a four-year liberal arts college in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Stephenville; the school evolved to become John Tarleton |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Agricultural College and joined with Texas Agricultural and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Mechanical College to form an educational system in 1917; the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | college gained university status in 1973; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Much of Tarleton State University's history and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | many of its traditions have been shaped by its association |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | with Texas A&M University, especially in the agricultural, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | mechanical, and military sciences; with campuses in Stephenville, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Fort Worth, Waco, and Midlothian, Tarleton State University |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | serves more than 13,000 students in 7 colleges and 250 academic |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | programs; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The school is known for its service to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | first-generation students and its focus on warmth and personal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | attention as well as affordability and efficiency; it also |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | maintains one of the fastest growth rates among universities in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A forward-looking institution with a long history |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and rich traditions, Tarleton State University continues to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provide its students with an outstanding education and a solid |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | foundation for achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Tarleton State University on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | its centennial celebration as a member of The Texas A&M |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | University System and recognize March 21, 2017, as Tarleton State |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | University Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
