                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 428
 WHEREAS, Every day across the Lone Star State, parents and
 family members of individuals with intellectual disabilities
 provide their children with attentive care and serve as effective
 advocates in their behalf; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, parents have fought vigorously
 for improved state schools, state centers, special education
 programs, and community mental health centers, and they have been
 involved in promoting, preserving, and expanding services for
 Texans with intellectual disabilities; and
 WHEREAS, These concerned caregivers have also joined
 together to convey the viewpoints of families and guardians to
 the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Texas
 Legislature, and the United States Congress, with the goal of
 maintaining standards for quality care and addressing such issues
 as fiscal responsibility and the needs of special populations; and
 WHEREAS, The personal and political efforts of the parents
 of individuals with intellectual disabilities have been vital to
 the well-being of countless Texas residents, and these loving,
 dedicated, and hardworking parents are truly worthy of special
 recognition for their notable accomplishments; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend the parents and family members of
 individuals with intellectual disabilities and extend to them
 sincere best wishes for continued success in their important work.
