11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 428
22 WHEREAS, Every day across the Lone Star State, parents and
33 family members of individuals with intellectual disabilities
44 provide their children with attentive care and serve as effective
55 advocates in their behalf; and
66 WHEREAS, Over the years, parents have fought vigorously
77 for improved state schools, state centers, special education
88 programs, and community mental health centers, and they have been
99 involved in promoting, preserving, and expanding services for
1010 Texans with intellectual disabilities; and
1111 WHEREAS, These concerned caregivers have also joined
1212 together to convey the viewpoints of families and guardians to
1313 the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Texas
1414 Legislature, and the United States Congress, with the goal of
1515 maintaining standards for quality care and addressing such issues
1616 as fiscal responsibility and the needs of special populations; and
1717 WHEREAS, The personal and political efforts of the parents
1818 of individuals with intellectual disabilities have been vital to
1919 the well-being of countless Texas residents, and these loving,
2020 dedicated, and hardworking parents are truly worthy of special
2121 recognition for their notable accomplishments; now, therefore,
2222 be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2424 Legislature, hereby commend the parents and family members of
2525 individuals with intellectual disabilities and extend to them
2626 sincere best wishes for continued success in their important work.
