| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Every day across the Lone Star State, parents and |

| 3 | 3 | | family members of individuals with intellectual disabilities |

| 4 | 4 | | provide their children with attentive care and serve as effective |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | advocates in their behalf; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, parents have fought vigorously |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for improved state schools, state centers, special education |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | programs, and community mental health centers, and they have been |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | involved in promoting, preserving, and expanding services for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Texans with intellectual disabilities; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, These concerned caregivers have also joined |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | together to convey the viewpoints of families and guardians to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Texas |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Legislature, and the United States Congress, with the goal of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | maintaining standards for quality care and addressing such issues |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | as fiscal responsibility and the needs of special populations; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The personal and political efforts of the parents |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of individuals with intellectual disabilities have been vital to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the well-being of countless Texas residents, and these loving, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | dedicated, and hardworking parents are truly worthy of special |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recognition for their notable accomplishments; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | be it |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend the parents and family members of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | individuals with intellectual disabilities and extend to them |

| 26 | 26 | | sincere best wishes for continued success in their important work. |
