| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Fred Farias III, who has been selected as the 2016 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Optometrist of the Year by the American Optometric Association; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Farias is the chief executive officer of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 20/20 Vision Care in his hometown of McAllen, Texas; he was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | selected as the Optometrist of the Year for his years of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | excellent service to his patients, his many contributions to the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | American Optometric Association, and his commitment to public |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | service; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Since graduating from the Southern College of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Optometry, Dr. Farias has been an enthusiastic advocate for his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | profession; he was president of both the Rio Grande Valley |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Optometric Society and the Texas Optometric Association, and for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | more than 20 years, he has been an American Optometric |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Association keyperson; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Farias has remained |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | focused on the visual welfare of the public; he has held |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | leadership positions with the Optometry Cares Society and Vision |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | USA, both of which are charitable endeavors of the American |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Optometric Association Foundation, and he takes great pride in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | organizing vision screenings for underserved communities in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | South Texas; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A truly distinguished leader in his field, Dr. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Farias was appointed to the Texas Optometry Board by former |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Governor Rick Perry and to the Texas Higher Education |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Coordinating Board by Governor Greg Abbott; he represents the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | highest ideals of professional and charitable service, and he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | is indeed deserving of recognition for his exceptional |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Fred Farias III for his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | exemplary work on behalf of his profession and the community and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | congratulate him on being honored as the 2016 Optometrist of the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Year by the American Optometric Association; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
