| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Homer Hogues on the grand occasion of his 90th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Homer Hogues was born on April 19, 1927, in |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Navasota, to Leroy and Lucinda Hogues; he grew up in Waxahachie |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and graduated from high school before entering into military |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | service with the United States Air Force; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After completing basic training, he was assigned |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to the famed Tuskegee Airmen as a mechanic with the 99th Fighter |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group; he was instrumental in preparing |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the unit's aircraft for the first United States Air Force gunnery |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | competition in Las Vegas in 1949; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from military service with the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | rank of staff sergeant, he embarked on a long and productive |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | career as a hard chrome plater with Lane Plating Works; he has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | also been in great demand as a speaker for schools and church |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | groups to recount his inspirational experiences with the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Tuskegee Airmen; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Homer Hogues has lived through times and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | experienced events that most people only know about through |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | history books; Sergeant Hogues was one of the few African |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Americans selected to participate in President Harry S. Truman's |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 1949 inaugural parade, and he attended the 2012 inaugural parade |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Barack Obama, the nation's first African American president; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected and admired member of his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | community, Homer Hogues is noted for his warmth, his courage, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | his wise counsel, and he inspires those around him with his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to Homer Hogues on the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | occasion of his 90th birthday; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
