| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The students, alumni, and staff members of Paul |

| 3 | 3 | | Quinn College are participating in their inaugural Paul Quinn |

| 4 | 4 | | College Day at the Capitol on March 21, 2017; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinn College was established on April 4, |

| 6 | 6 | | 1872, as a private, four-year liberal arts historically black |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | college that was founded by and affiliated with the African |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Methodist Episcopal Church; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The mission of Paul Quinn College is to provide a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | quality, faith-based education that addresses the academic, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | social, and Christian development of students and prepares them |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to be leaders and agents of change in the global marketplace; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Paul Quinn College Day at the Capitol reinforces |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | this mission for its participants by providing them with the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | opportunity to articulate their policy concerns and interests |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | directly to Texas legislators; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The institution embraces its ethos of "WE over Me" |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and is dedicated to honoring the "Four Ls of Quinnite Leadership: |

| 19 | 19 | | Leave places better than you found them; Lead from wherever you |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | are; Live a life that matters; and Love something greater than |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | yourself"; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, During the institution's 145 years, the students |

| 23 | 23 | | and alumni of Paul Quinn College have consistently demonstrated a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | steadfast commitment to the advancement of all Texans; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby celebrate the inaugural Paul Quinn College |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Day at the Capitol and extend to its students, alumni, and staff |

| 29 | 29 | | the most sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
