| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Bob L. Townsend is completing his distinguished |

| 3 | 3 | | 16-year tenure on the Richardson City Council in April 2017; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, First elected in 2001, Bob Townsend was reelected |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | seven times in a row; he has served three terms as mayor pro tem, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and from 2011-2013, he was city mayor; in addition, he has been a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | member of the Audit, Education, and Retail Committees and of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Mayor's Office of International Business; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Townsend provided key support for a number of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | major projects, among them Fire Station 6, the Eisemann Center |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for the Performing Arts, the CityLine mixed-use development, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | renovations to the Heights and Huffhines Recreation Centers; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | committed to improving transit, he was a crucial advocate for the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | construction of five Dallas Area Rapid Transit rail stations, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | four of them now complete, and he served on the Regional |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Transportation Council and Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | moreover, he represented the city as a member of the North |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Central Texas Council of Governments, Collin County Mayors, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Metroplex Mayors Association; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Long active in the community, Mr. Townsend has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | been an ex officio member of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Board and the Leadership Richardson Advisory Board; he further |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | served as president of the Southwest Richardson Homeowners |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Association and the Richland Meadows Neighborhood Association; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Townsend was born in Oklahoma and attended |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the University of Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University before going on to earn a master's degree from |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Southern Methodist University; he was employed in management by |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Texas Instruments for 37 years before his retirement in 1997; in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | all his endeavors, he enjoys the support and encouragement of his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wife, Lynn, and he takes great pride in their three children, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of Richardson, Bob |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Townsend has worked tirelessly in behalf of his fellow citizens, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and his outstanding contributions have made the city an even |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; now, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby honor Bob L. Townsend for his exemplary |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | service on the Richardson City Council and congratulate him on |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | his retirement; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Mr. Townsend as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
