| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Pastor David L. Smith and First Lady Linda Smith on the |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of their 25th Pastoral Anniversary Kick-off Community |

| 5 | 5 | | Celebration, which is being held at New Bethlehem Missionary |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Baptist Church in Houston on April 2, 2017; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Smith returned home to New Bethlehem |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Missionary Baptist Church in 1992 after having entered the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | ministry at True Vine Missionary Baptist Church; he had grown up |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | as a member of New Bethlehem under the leadership of Pastor |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Rafael Stiller; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Under Pastor Smith's outstanding leadership, the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | church has experienced significant growth and played a vital role |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in the life of the community with such programs as a food pantry, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | a tape ministry, and a mission ministry for people who are sick or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | no longer able to leave their homes; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Pastor |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Smith has prayed with and counseled his congregation in times of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hardship and bereavement and rejoiced with them in times of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | celebration and plenty; throughout his pastorate at the church, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he has been blessed with the enduring love and support of his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | wife, First Lady Linda Smith; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others, |

| 24 | 24 | | this beloved pastor has had a profound impact on the lives of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Pastor David L. Smith and First Lady |

| 28 | 28 | | Linda Smith on their faithful service to New Bethlehem Missionary |

| 29 | 29 | | Baptist Church and extend to them best wishes for a memorable |
