| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Seagoville are visiting Austin |

| 3 | 3 | | on March 23, 2017, to celebrate Seagoville Day at the State |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in the rich Blackland Prairie region near |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Trinity River, the town was founded in 1876 and was originally |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | named Seago, after T. K. Seago, a settler who established the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | location's first general store; area residents gained rail |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | connections in 1881, when the Texas Trunk Railroad built its |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | track through the town, and the first official plat was recorded |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | in the Dallas County deed records two years later; there was a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | cotton gin and a steam gristmill by 1885, and nearby farmers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | shipped cotton and alfalfa; in 1910, the post office department |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | changed the town's name to Seagoville to avoid confusion with a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | similarly named community; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, the people of Seagoville delight in their |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | community's small-town atmosphere, yet their proximity to the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex gives residents and visitors easy |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | access to a wide range of big-city cultural and sports |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | activities; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Seagoville also boasts a variety of outdoor |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recreational opportunities at its numerous parks, tennis |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | facilities, and senior citizen and youth centers; nearby Lake Ray |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Hubbard offers nearly 23,000 acres for fishing and water sports, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | while nature lovers can learn more about the area at the Post Oak |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Preserve and the Dallas Independent School District Environmental |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Education Center; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Each October, the community celebrates the migration |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of the beautiful monarch butterfly during Seagofest, an event for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the entire family that provides a welcome opportunity for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | residents to pay tribute to their shared history and culture; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The city of Seagoville embodies the best aspects |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | of both rural and urban life, and its citizens may indeed take |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | great pride in their achievements as they work to build an even |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | brighter future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 23, 2017, as Seagoville Day |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. |
